Let me tell you something about Japan... 日本語

 By: Pastor Naofumi Nozawa

When it comes to religion in Japan, we think of Shinto and Japanese Buddhism. According to wikipedia, per birth records, about 84%-96% of Japanese "adhere to Shinto and Buddhism." However, "70% say that they have no religious membership, 84% have no personal religion. 55% do not believe in Buddha, 64% do not believe in God." In fact, only 1% of the Japanese population are Christians. Yet, traditional festivals or superstitious religious events such as Obon, Christmas, and Tanabata are widely accepted and celebrated. Why is that? Are we just a group of people who live off of traditions, traditions of men? I'll leave it up to you to answer that question.

What is it that drive the Japanese people to keep on living when most do not believe in a Higher Being? We work, play, sleep, study and what else? What is life to a Japanese? Fashion, wealth, degrees, careers, entertainment, human relationships, etc., are these the religion of the Japan and its people?

Were you born in Japan? Grew up there? Visited before? Live there? Or are you just interested in the culture and people of Japan? Whatever your answer may be, I invite you to learn about God and His endless love for the world, and yes, even for Japan and its people. What is God doing for Japan and for you? Please come and join us and learn more! We welcome you!

"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life." John 3:16
